BI Analytics Engineer (dbt & BigQuery Specialist)

We are looking for a BI Analytics Engineer who sits at the intersection of Data Engineering and Business Intelligence. 

This isn't a role where you’ll be a "ticket-taker." You will have the autonomy to refactor the architecture, choose the best path forward for our stack, and directly influence the company's growth strategy through data. You will be the primary owner of our dbt environment and BigQuery warehouse, ensuring our data transformations are scalable, our costs are controlled, and our Looker Studio dashboards provide the "aha!" moments our stakeholders need.

Key Responsibilities 

• Platform Stewardship: Take full ownership of our dbt project. You will maintain, refactor, and optimize existing models to ensure high performance and modularity.
• Warehouse Optimization: Manage our BigQuery environment. You’ll be responsible for performance tuning (partitioning, clustering) and cost management to ensure our warehouse scales efficiently.
• BI Excellence: Design, build, and maintain high-impact dashboards in Looker Studio. You’ll ensure that the data visualized is not just "correct," but actionable.
• Engineering Standards: Implement and uphold best practices for data modeling, version control (Git), and CI/CD. We believe in treating data like software.
• Business Translation: Partner with department leads to understand their KPIs. You will translate vague business questions into precise technical requirements and, ultimately, data products.
• Legacy Refactoring: Identify technical debt within our current views and models. You will be tasked with simplifying complex logic and improving data documentation.

What You'll Bring 

• dbt Expert: You have deep experience with dbt (Core or Cloud), including macros, snapshots, and testing frameworks.
• SQL Ninja: You don’t just write SQL; you write performant SQL. You understand how BigQuery executes queries under the hood.
• Data Modeling Architect: You are a fan of modularity. You know when to use Star Schema vs. One Big Table (OBT) and understand the trade-offs.
• Visualization Pro: You have a portfolio of Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio) dashboards that are clean, intuitive, and fast-loading.
• Contextual Awareness: You don't just build a "Revenue" column; you ask whether it's gross, net, or recognized revenue.
• The "So What?" Factor: You have the ability to look at a dataset and understand the story it tells, ensuring the dashboards you build actually drive decision-making.
• Communication: You can explain a "left join" to a Marketing Manager and a "conversion rate" to a Software Engineer without losing either of them.

Skills & Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in an Analytics Engineering or BI role.
• Expert-level SQL and experience with Google BigQuery.
• Hands-on experience managing dbt in a production environment.
• Proficiency in Looker Studio (experience with Looker/LookML is a plus).
• Git/Version Control experience is a must.
• Familiarity with Python for basic scripting or data manipulation is preferred.
• Fluent English (C1 level), both written and spoken.
